About Me

Here is a bit about me for those who want to learn more before contacting me about visiting your school.

I was born and raised in Indianapolis, Indiana.

I went to college at The Citadel, the military college of South Carolina where I studied Electrical Engineering and trained to be in officer in the United States Navy.

After graduation from The Citadel, I spent 11 years in the Navy.

After my first tour of duty on the USS Sample, I reported to Monterey, California for postgraduate school. I studied Electrical Engineering and Space Systems Engineering and prepared to become an Engineering Duty Officer. I graduated with a Masters in Electrical Engineering (with Space Systems Engineering).

I served for five more years in the United States Navy and left to become an engineer and manager in the defense industry. During this time, I become a UNIX administrator and Cisco Router engineer.

I left the defense industry to become the Information Technology infrastructure manager at the Indianapolis Star Newspaper. Here I learned more about information technology and also studied and practiced the Deming Management Method.

After six years at the Indianapolis Star, I discovered that I could use my avocation as a semi-professional musician to audition for a military reserve band and finish my retirement playing my Trombone. I joined the 38th infantry band.

With the benefits of a military retirement in my future, I realized that I would be able to achieve a lifelong dream and become a teacher. I spent 18 months in a transition to teacher program and began an 18 year career as a classroom teacher.

I have taught every Math and Physics classes offered in my schools from 6th grade through AP Statistics, AP Calculus, IB Math and IB physics.

In 2022, I graduated from teaching to pursue a new passion to train teachers in the latest and best practices for teaching mathematics.

This brings us to the present day. If you need professional development for teachers in Math Education or would like to talk to me about a larger role as a curriculum developer, math coach and intervention specialist, send me an e-mail and lets talk about how I can use my management teaching experience to help you get on a continual improvement process and build a stronger math program at your school.
